Dr. McCardel grew up in Lansing. He earned his
undergraduate and medical degree from the University
of Michigan. He completed his internship and
orthopedic residency at the University of North Carolina
Hospital in Chapel Hill. Dr. McCardel has been
chairman of the Department of Surgery at Sparrow
Health System, as well as Secretary/Treasurer of the
Medical Staff and a member or Chairman of many
committees, including a current member of the
Audit/Finance committee of Sparrow Health System,
and past Board member of PHP. He is a case reviewer
for the State Board of Medicine. He is also a member
of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the
Michigan State Medical Society and Ingham County
Medical Society. Dr. McCardel is Chairman of the
Capital Area Regional Health Information Organization,
and has chaired its development.

has extensive experience in arthroscopic surgery,
fracture care and total joint replacements. He began
practice in 1990. Dr. McCardel performs surgery at
Sparrow Hospital.
