Dr. McCardel was born at St. Lawrence Hospital and
grew up in Lansing. He earned his undergraduate
degree and medical degree from the University of
Michigan. He completed his internship and orthopedic
residency at the University of North Carolina Hospital in
Chapel Hill. Dr. McCardel has been working in private
practice since 1990. Dr. McCardel is an American
Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) fellow and
an American Board of Orthopedic Surgery diplomate.
Dr. McCardel's is currently Chief of Orthopedics at
Sparrow Health System. He is a founding board
member of BCBSM MARCQI Total Joint Quality
Registry. Dr. McCardel is a founding member and the
current chairman of the Great Lakes Health Information
Exchange. He is a member of the Health Care Systems
Committee at AAOS. He is a case reviewer for the
Michigan State Board of Medicine.
Past positions Dr. McCardel has held include chairman
of the department of surgery at Sparrow Health System,
Secretary/Treasurer of the Sparrow Medical Staff,
Audit/Finance Committee of Sparrow Health System,
and board member of PHP.
Dr. McCardel provides care in general orthopedics and
has extensive experience in arthroscopic surgery,
fracture care and total joint replacements.
